Am I alone in thinking "Cryosleep fucks with everybody" would be a great start to a story?

Just finished Dead of Night. My thoughts:

The writing is top notch, as I would have expected from SVF. It's fun having a story set in Chicago. Makes me wonder if SVF has lived there, or if he's diligent with his research. Given the quality of the writing, the latter wouldn't surprise me. Never would have expected to hear about the Dan Ryan in a story on the archive.

It's probably not fair to compare this story to Kat and Mouse, but given how much I enjoyed K&M, and this being the next story that the author put out, it's probably inevitable. With that in mind, this story was not what I had expected going in, but I'd rather not focus on that.

I'd say if you enjoy compelling sci-fi mysteries, with a touch of hypnosis and trances, this story would be highly recommended. Plenty of twists and turns, with little to no questions left unanswered by the end. If you're looking for an erotic story to get off to, though, well there are still a few moments. I think this is all by design, of course!

Ultimately I'd say it was quite an interesting read!

Dead of Night (https://mcstories.com/DeadOfNight/index.html) (mc mf ff md fd) (1 new chapter)  by SoVeryFascinated
An actress responds well to a stage hypnosis show ... and so does someone else.

This continues to be very well written and very complex in terms of plotting and concept. This one conclusively wraps up the story, and I'm glad I read it, although it didn't do much for me erotically in the last few chapters.

Cornflower Blue (https://mcstories.com/CornflowerBlue/index.html) (mc mf md) (new)  by Beagle9690
A telepath hires a personal secretary.

Not that it's a negative, but I've never seen a story with such a focus on hair

Structurally, there are issues. It's exposition heavy, there are intermittent bits in all-caps, some odd quotation marks during narration, and perspective shifts are not well signposted. There's a lot of references to the etymology of names, especially if they're biblical. Despite this, the story does feel like it's had a lot of passion put into it, and the concepts are hot.

Rachel’s Love Potion (https://mcstories.com/RachelsLovePotion/index.html) (mc mf md) (new)  by Ice Bear
A warlock carefully prepares a love potion that he indends to give to Rachel, only things do not go exactly to plan.

Not overly taut, but it's a fun concept, has a lot of good characterisation, and is decently hot. Unsure if this is going to continue, but it's a reasonable stopping point if it's not. I consider it sort of an "NC-lite" story in terms of how it resolves.

That is a hell of great review! The EMCSA holds a lot of really good fiction that happens to be erotic that gets lost in the shuffle.

I'm guilty of primarily browsing here for the stories to get off to... but man, who doesn't want to watch a porno with a good plot? There lies the realm of stories that will bring us out of our comfort zone.

"It's not that erotic" is a perfectly good criticism of "Dead of Night." That's one reason I normally don't write my stories week-to-week. The most erotic section of "Gabby the Gray" got added in after the first draft of the story was done, because I wanted more sexy stuff in it.

Some of the stories I managed to get through so far. Others I still have to read. But for those I have I will say, wow! A very good week so far.

Always liked the college girl goes bad stories and new writer gwazi101 does a fine job with Jackson Falls. Gwazi really takes time in letting us get to know the protagonist and victim Anna, her background, personality and circumstances. I love that kind of set up because it really shows the changes that come about. Also the villain of the piece the little aggressive rascal Mandy is also well done. Anna's descent is a slow burn heaven and very hot. The writer really does a great job showing the internal and physical changes that occur. The only thing I was curious about that I did not know was what was the driver behind the changes. What mechanism was used to make them come about. Not really a big deal though. Really good story.

Greyscribblers The Internship is becoming every bit the great story I knew it would be. He has taken the idea of the intern to the amazing heights his insight and writing talent always do. Nicole continues to 'learn' at the instruction of Ms. Henderson and company. She got a really good lesson in office etiquette and how nice her boss is in letter her indulge in certain things this week. HOT. HOT. HOT. And course so well written from Nichole's internal perspective, something Grey is so damn good at always. Also received an answer to a question I was wondering: What was up the the blue light and candles? Is it science for something else? Look like something else.....ohhh...So glad there are many more chapters to go.

Half Shims Drone Metastisis just gets better and better as the family comes increasingly under the insidious influence of the Hive. Very well written, terrific plot and characters, not rushed and slow burn hot MC. Zoe and lost friend Simone chapters are particularly arresting in all the right ways.

I said a couple weeks ago that Zorkmeisters Refashioned was head for rarefied air for me if it kept going on like this. Well it has gone on like that and even got better and it has officially hit status as one of my favorite stories of all time. Not an easy mountain to climb but piton by piton, foot by foot it made that regal summit.

It is that great in all possible ways an MC story can be. The plot is very layered and intricate. The characters are fully fleshed out with their own personalities and goals. The world built here is top notch and fascinating and expansive. The writing is professional in caliber and so very smooth and fun to digest.

Oh...it also happens to have some of the best all time inductions slow burn descents into MC slavery I have ever read. I mean every part of it is perfection. The induction methods, the programming messages applied and how they are built upon layer by slow layer and the internal thoughts and ideas changing inside the victims heads. It is a tour de force of story telling and MC.

And the best part is I still don't know what the end game is. Annabel and Jess and others continue to fall into the iron erotic grip of Gorgon under the expert 'guidance' Lauren and Naomi as well as other drivers of control. What makes this even better is the writer also throws in other victims some further along and others further back like Annabel's friend Sonya and her co worker Monica. Watching their slow changes begin is also hot as hell. I hope we eventually see a meeting between Annabel and Sonya who used to have a "real" life with husband and all but is now certainly going to trade that in for something else, something better such as...training and discipline and truths.

You want to read a great MC story without flaw, dig in here.

And finally another of my all time favs continues apace (hey that's two of yours on my list 321!) with 321's ridiculous Hostel. What is there to say about this one? The story is fantasitic, filled with great villains, great heroines, tragic victims (sometimes one and the same or all three and the same!!) amazing plot twists and ridiculously hot MC all flying in your face at once! Just enjoy Dearie!

This week the cliffhangers keep on coming. This week was one of the best chapters in my view. Rebecca and Alice on the run and dear sweet Emily and Celeste now turned against them. Now how about this for a shocker. Alice as savior? Yep, roll that one around in your psyche for a moment!

But here is rub to this great multi-layered chapter and story. If Alice, very clever Alice has a solution to the current problem, great. But if she and Rebecca win, what is the real victory? Because Rebecca is still now Celeste's' evil mind control craving creation! So you have two dilemma's now, stacked up upon each other and one solution does not fit all. What will happen? Damn I want to know so much.

And in a beautifully written piece of revelation 321 shows us how Rebecca came about her interest in hypnosis. Hmmmmm....never suspected that one.

Influencer by MindSpark

I'll start by saying it isn't what I expected. First time reading MindSpark's work, so that might have a lot to do with it. I thought it would be a story about a caring father doing everything in his (mind control) power to make sure people liked his daughter's (bad) content.

Alas, it is yet another story about a sleazy, disgusting man who essentially is on a mission to sluttify his daughter. So, there's that. The writing still somehow makes you sympathize for the narrator - sometimes you just don't want a kid and that's that. But, waoh, I am always amazed at how well some people can write scumbags. On that front, I think MindSpark has achieved something here. Is he an interesting character? Hmmm... no. But the characterization is good. Good enough that I even forgot the name of the daughter, the person being MCed here. We see her through his eyes, askwed, faulty, a little bit rapy, and patronizing. I dunno... I hated the story for all the right reasons, I think. Would not recommend: doesn't do anything new, but I appreciate the scum in there.

First time reading MindSpark's work, so that might have a lot to do with it.

That would have everything to do with it, since most of MindSpark's protagonists, including in the outstanding "Baby Steps", are evil fathers MCing hot young daughters.

MindSpark isn't for everybody but for people who aren't squicked out, he's a great writer and his stories are really sexy.  Like this one, which I can already tell I'm going to thoroughly enjoy.

Apropos of nothing, the thing that fascinates me about MindSpark is the machine-like pace of his stories.  2800-3200 words per chapter, every time.

That's so true.  And even if "Dead" didn't have the nail-biting intensity of K&M, the story came together really wonderfully in the end, which (knowing Fascinated) probably surprises absolutely no one.  I really enjoyed it.  Now to go back and re-visit 'Sapphire' to search for hidden gems.  Or, just to enjoy it again!

More reviews!

Dead of Night rolls to an effective, spooky conclusion. I admire SoVeryFascinated's use of hypnosis as both a source of sexy scenes and as a driver of plot, and Dead of Night has both in spades. The shuffling thing, barely able to comprehend or communicate in our world gives the story a nice King-esque feel to it. Can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!

I really enjoyed the original Out of Mind, and the sequel opens with a nice scene in which a high-tech 'smart car' hypnotizes its unwilling occupant as part of a larger scheme to transform innocent men and women into mindless drones. To what end? Well, it's a mystery!

This week gives us two workplace stories from two longtime EMCSA writers: Greyscribbler's The Internship, now in its third frame, and newcomer Thin as Paper, Thick as Blood by connie k. I'm loving the slow burn of these stories and the way each takes time to build an atmosphere of "just off-kilter enough to be weird but not obvious enough to run screaming from the building." One gets the feeling that neither Nichole nor Jackie are going to ever escape from their new jobs- but I'm guessing that before the end, neither will care about that!

Wildwood continues to give us twist after twist after twist, like the pinstriping on a particularly large and delicious candy cane. Both good guys and bad guys continue to top each other in their struggle to come out ahead. Who knows where this will end?

I'm loving the slow burn of these stories and the way each takes time to build an atmosphere of "just off-kilter enough to be weird but not obvious enough to run screaming from the building." One gets the feeling that neither Nichole nor Jackie are going to ever escape from their new jobs- but I'm guessing that before the end, neither will care about that!

Thanks 321.  Internships do sometimes lead to long-term 'employment', don't they?

Yes it disappeared very quickly. Duckduckgo had an entry but not a cache.

Wildwood creeps closer to the finale it seems. At this point I wish I could just read it already! I know how I want it to end, but with the way things are going in the story it's hard to imagine how that could be achieved. I'm sure the author has something up his/her sleeve, and I hope it comes through well.

The Internship is a little less overt with the mind control than I prefer (obviously personal preference, yadda yadda), but I was still enjoying it. And then it got to that last scene at the main character's home. I'd definitely say that the scene kicked the story up a notch! No idea what's in store for the remaining seven chapters, but the ending to this one made me certain I'll continue to read.

Lastly, The Witch, The Whip, His Wife and Her Lover. I think the author and I need to have a word about the length of his titles! I was excited to read this one, given how much of a gem his first story was. Unfortunately, parts of the story were rather stacked against that. Politics of any kind is quite the turn off, and male sub in general is just difficult for me to find interest in, though not impossible! That said, I would wager that people that prefer male sub would greatly enjoy this. I think certain aspects of the story, such as the use of colors, was fantastic. Quite frankly, if the main character was female, I probably would have loved it, maybe even with the politics. So yeah, still going to say great job. Fingers crossed that the next story is a bit more to my taste. (Not that you should be writing for me, of course.) I'll likely be reading it regardless.

Hey now, I think there have even been longer titles in some of the same updates I posted in

I'm glad you found things to like in it despite not being your normal kind of story. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Fsub is my main thing, so I hope it will be too! Speaking of, time to go get stuck in.

The Internship and May I were both great. I sent May I to someone I'm seeing, because I'm fairly sure it'll be a huge turn-on for her.

I also loved Rachel's Love Potion. Really great world-building and setup. I felt like the execution felt slightly flat, but I honestly couldn't tell you why - I think a POV switch to Rachel at that point would have been what I was looking for, but I'm certainly not complaining. Really great, hot tale. :)

How does 321’s “Hostel” keep getting better, growing in length and complexity without losing momentum.  321 is putting on a clinic.

“The Great Trancini” might be my favorite character name this year.

Thanks, and agreed re:PoV. I'll be releasing the next few installments over the next few updates, in which I did just that.

Thanks Shadra.  I have to admit my writing does tend towards the slow burn. *cough* Fair Share *cough*.   I do wonder what you'll think of the first scene in part 4.  Hopefully you'll like it

Xhalation (https://mcstories.com/Xhalation/index.html) (mc ff) (new)  by Jukebox
Sarah is exposed to a new drug via secondhand vapor and it blows her mind.

Not only is this timely with those secondhand vape devices causing issues, but also drug MC can be quite fun if done right. Who better than Jukebox to take on the theme? There was a rather amusing level of realism in how the Goth Chick acted. There is a very distinct behavior many of those vape users exhibit. It is as if they were somehow better, because they were not smoking the old-fashioned cigarette. They just don't seem to care in some ways. At the same time, one does sometimes wonder what exactly that mist coming from those pens really is. Anyway, perhaps this was a bit mean spirited. Maybe a little. But it was so well written that it didn't matter. It did not really matter that it was a vape pen as the MC medium. All we ever do on the MC Archive is work to get a dose of that good old MC. And sometimes, we get to enjoy flavors we don't normally look for.

It's Day-Old Thoughts On Week-Old Stories! This time is Zack and Millie.

A pleasant little story. The "flash-present" sections (where events while Millie is in trance occur in italics) are a neat device. And the introduction of the shopkeeper character with some mysterious past with Zack has been an intriguing addition.

I am a little curious when it's going to... "kick in," so to speak. There's a sense that the plot is building toward something, but there's not really any sense of what that might be. Besides "now Millie is now completely enslaved." Just replace the words "personal assistant" with "slave" in her head, and you've basically done it. She hasn't really been fighting or resisting at all. There are piles of stories that consist of a single scene of enslavement, and I don't really miss it when it lacks dramatic tension or a deeper plot. As I said, this one has been pleasant, like a nice stroll in the park, but after 10k words, I'm hoping for a little more excitement. Or I'll adjust my expectations.

Glad you're enjoying, if on a chilled out stroll-in-the-park level.

For what it's worth: For me, the journey in this story isn't Millie's. Which may be clear after the final chapter, or I may have missed my mark.

I think I can get behind that. Been reading some "battle-of-wits" and "cat-and-mouse" stories lately, and been trying to pick them apart, and the progression of enslavement and the struggle between controller and victim are often the big conflict there. The high stakes and uncertainty I've been slurping up with those have probably colored my view a bit.

But if you're saying what I think you are, I do think I've got a bit better of a handle on it now. :)

I mean, fair's fair, you may come out of Chapter Four with the same issue. I won't claim to be a perfect writer.

A buzzer-beater for Day-Old Thoughts, and it's for Dead of Night.

Here's my progression going through this story.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

While the ending might not have floated my particular boat, overall I was pretty riveted. The characters all rang very clear, and the prose really flowed. I liked it almost as much as I liked Kat and Mouse, which I liked a lot, though I didn't finish it in time to give timely feedback. Both had me on the edge of my seat.

Since I mentioned Kat and Mouse, just wanted to say (again) that it was a phenomenal story. It felt super grounded and the tension was so thick it was actually nauseating for me at times. Which is a good thing, I think. Well done. I really want sequels where Kat and Marisa become consultants or PIs and solve mind control cases for the FBI, or something like that. That would be dope.

And speaking of both stories, the biggest issue I have with both of them is that both are very lacking in eroticism to me. Dead of Night moreso. The hypnosis rarely comes off as sexy, seductive, or titillating. It's a device that supports the plot and the tones of uncertainty and fear. Supports them very well, I'll readily admit. Even in Kat and Mouse, where the two characters have an erotic relationship with hypnosis to start, the plot twists and perverts it, and not in a fun way. Compelling, but not in the sexy way I come to this site for. It very well could be that forcing more erotic elements into either story would have compromised the overall vision, but I'd love to see one that includes them organically.

This is a totally valid criticism of my work. My theory is that is you have likable characters and an engaging story, almost any use of hypnosis becomes sexy as a result. But I understand when the occasional reader does not see it that way.

I'm working on a couple of stories right now that I am trying to make more overtly erotic. But my guiding principle is, and always has been, "write what would turn me on," and it's worked out pretty well so far.

Totally get that. More than one author or critic has said "hypnosis itself is sexy." I get about halfway there most of the time, but the rest depends on the way the MC is treated by the author. Even if it doesn't involve explicit sex, some scenes have that heat and some don't. And obviously that can vary quite a bit from person to person.

That's not to say you didn't do it well. Your scenes were almost all intense to some degree, and often intimate. I just didn't find them super hot. It's difficult to articulate why without rereading them both again.

If they're hot to you, though, you keep doing you. Mad respect to any artist who knows what they like and likes what they do. Sincerity is always more rewarding than chasing the fickle whims of the faceless masses. Now, where did I put my face... ;)

I'm enjoying this particular bit of conversation, thank you both.  I had my own thoughts on both Kat and Mouse and Dead of Night, with the former still one of my very favorite short stories in a long time.  Neither story felt overtly erotic but in the case of Kat and Mouse the sheer intensity more than made up for it - I don't know that a permeating sense of dread is or isn't erotic but it began to feel that way at least to me.  Dead of Night was didn't quite have the same intensity for me and I'm not sure why - it's occurred to me that the inclusion of the villain's perspective in the narrative might have done quite a lot to enhance the menace of Kat and Mouse; Dead of Night felt more like a mystery tale by comparison though I one I much enjoyed.
