Important Announcement: MCForum Software Updgrade

(1/3) > >>

Bobwhite:
Good day, kind sirs and madams!

We're making this announcement to... uhm, announce, I guess... that we will be upgrading the MCF's software to the latest version of SMF. We're going from 2.0.9 to 2.0.15, or something like that. This change will be mostly transparent.

Also, we will be moving to a better (i.e., complete) implementation of HTTPS, which among other things should get rid of the warning icons. It should also allow the spoiler tags to work without disabling protection. This may cause compatibility issues with links to non-HTTPS content, but as HTTPS is the wave of the future, we'll just have to cross all of those bridges as we come to them.

This will all be happening on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018, at 7:00 AM, PDT. During this time, access to the MCF may be spotty, and any posts you make while we are switching things over may vanish. Since we're moving to a new host machine, DNS settings must be changed, and that can take a few minutes to a few hours to filter through all of the various and sundry Internets. (It normally doesn't take very long.)

And thus, the announcement comes to a close. Thanks for your time and attention. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the Feedback forum, because I'm pretty sure only Mods and Admins can post here.

As a test, I tried to respond directly to this thread...

Geo:
Sorry Joe.

Bobwhite:
Oh well. Live and learn.

Bobwhite:
OK... just a reminder: this move is happening in a couple of days!

We've fiddled with some settings on the Giant Router in the Sky, and the new IP address should propagate through the Internets in a matter of minutes. But, in order for this to work properly, you should close your browser windows and tabs and then re-open them after the change. Don't just close the MCForum tab; that may not work, and the browser's internal cache will keep trying to go to the old place because reasons.

So, on Tuesday, if you have connection issues, close out all browser windows and try again. If you still have issues, clear your cache and cookies. If you still have problems, shoot me an email.
